春联的由来
春联一开始不叫“春联”，而叫“桃符”。据说贴桃符的起源很早，当时贴“桃符”是为了用来驱除妖魔鬼怪。
传说，古代有一种极其凶残的怪兽，经常作恶，危害百姓，却又没有什么东西可以降住它。
后来，有两位专门除妖的神仙，他们用桃枝降住了怪兽。于是，民间便传出，直呼偶在门上挂上刻有两位神仙名字的桃枝，妖魔鬼怪便不敢靠前。后来，这样的桃枝被称为“桃符”，“桃符”便流行下来了。
在五代十国时期，桃符演变成了春联。据记载，当时后蜀主孟昶让张逊在桃木上题词，他写完之后，孟昶觉得不对仗，便又写道：“新年纳余庆，佳节号长春”，这是中国第一幅春联，而在当时还被成为桃符。后来纸张的出现，桃木换成了红纸。
春联真正的出现是在明朝朱元璋时期，当时，朱元璋要求家家户户贴春联，于是大街小巷处处贴满了春联。
春联的意义
为春节增添喜气的气氛，春联都是红底黑字或者红底金字，加之各种纹饰，符合新春的喜庆和欢乐，为春节增添了喜庆的气氛，表达美好的祝愿和愿景。
春联中的纹饰，如鱼，寓意年年有余;美好的语言，如“天增岁月人增寿，春满乾坤福满门”等美好的祝福语表达了人们对来年的美好渴望。
